Don’t succumb to the pressure to constantly keep your kids busy. Do this instead.

I received many emails this week with the subject line: How to keep your kids busy this summer. How to make sure your kids aren’t bored this summer.

We’re a culture of doers, so I thought I would take a minute to give you my best parenting advice for summer.

Sleep in

Hang out in pajamas as long as you can

Eat ice cream…often

Break rules

Take naps

Go outside without an agenda other than to play, explore and learn

Watch the stars at night

Find the moon

Watch the sunrise and the sunset whenever you can

Don’t take everything so seriously

Laugh as much as you can

You will feel tempted to sign up for every activity and camp. You will want to ensure your children are not bored.

But it’s ok to be bored. Boredom fosters creativity, imagination, ingenuity, problem-solving, self-reliance, and many more beautiful things.

Resist the need to subscribe to the notion that being busy is best.
